Nunazymes ApS has patented two cold-active enzymes:
- β-galactosidase (beta-D-galactoside galactohydrolase, EC 220.127.116.11) isolated from a bacterium, Alkalilactibacillus ikkensis from the Ikka Fjord in Greenland. The enzyme has more than 60% activity at 0 °C. The enzyme and its applications have been patented (WO2010/092057).
- α-amylase (alpha-1,4-glucan-4-glucanohydrolases, E.C.18.104.22.168) isolated from a metagenome representing DNA isolated from ikaite tufe columns from the Ikka Fjord in Greenland. The enzyme has more than 70% relative activity at 0 °C. The enzyme and its applications have been patented (WO/2015/165472).
Furthermore, Nunazymes ApS has access to microorganisms from cold environments in Greenland and can develop other cold-active enzymes in collaboration with project partners and customers.
